Felt Heart Cushion

Today I made another heart themed item, a cushion which is going to be a Valentines Day gift for Little L. The only cushion pad I had at hand measures 12in x12in so it's not very big.

After my fabric pieces were cut out I pinned the felt hearts in to position and drew on heart shapes in between. The hearts are spaced about an inch apart.

The felt hearts were sewn on using my sewing machine then the hearts that I had drawn on were outlined in chain stitch with embroidery thread.

The cushion has a simple envelope closing back. I inserted some pom pom edging when I joined the front and back pieces together.

Boston Terrier Cushion

This is the latest cushion that I have finished. It was going to be another rabbit one but I started again and chose the boston terrier as it is my favourite breed of dog.

The floral fabric was from the kidney shaped dressing table that I re-covered. This piece was underneath the glass top so wasn't faded or stained like the curtains. Being restricted to the fabric size, this cushion is slightly smaller than others I have made and measures approximately 12" x 12".

It was very quick to put together once I'd made a template but I spent a lot of time faffing around with the eyes. I had them closed then completely round before sewing them like this.

After looking at it for a week I decided to stitch around them with some white embroidery thread.
Some of the changes I'd make to this if I were to start again are to reduce the size of the ears and make the face symmetrical. I think this is going to be one of my projects that I might hide away then take a look at in a couple of months to see if it has grown on me .. it sometimes works.

Fabric Test and Tutorials

I was kindly asked by Cat from Cut Out And Keep if I would like to test out some fabric and write a tutorial for the site and of course I jumped at the chance.
The fabric was supplied by Premier Prints, Inc. The site stocks so many beautiful fabrics if was difficult to decide.

I finally settled on these two designs, Bird Silhouette and Air Traffic and used them to made some cushion covers.

On the bird silhouette cushion I embroidered some wording using chain stitch

and appliqued felt letters on to the air traffic one.
Both the tutorials for these can be found on Cut Out And Keep, here and here.

Crochet Bunny Cushion

The crocheted bunny cushion that I made a start on earlier this month has now been finished. It didn't take long at all to make, lots of ends to sew in though.

The pattern in the book, Pixel Crochet, is for a floor cushion but I wanted mine to come out smaller so I used a 4mm hook and only worked one round of the granny square.

The first pink shade that I used for the inside of ear was barely noticeable so I unpicked the squares from the design and replaced them with a different shade.

Once all the small squares were sewn together I crocheted a round of htr around the edge. I attached a simple fabric back to the cushion front.

All finished.
